5-Day Berber Villages Atlas & Sahara Trek

Detailed Itinerary

1. Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil / High Atlas (1740m) - Tizi Mzik (2684m) - Cascades Of Touloult (2300m) Village Of Tizi Oussem (1850m)

   After breakfast in Marrakech, pickup and drive to the High Atlas Mountains via Tahnnaout, Oued Ghighaya and Asni, enjoy the breathtaking views of the villages along the valet. Arrival in Imlil (65km from Marrakech), meeting with the guide and the muleteer then departure of the trek and climb of the Tizi Mzik pass (2684m), spectacular view of the Imlil valley and Toubkal summit, continuation to Tamsoulte to visit the highest waterfalls of the Atlas (100m of height), to descend the valley of Azzaden through the forest of juniper trees to arrive at the village of Tizi Oussem. Overnight at the guest house in the village.

2. Day 2: Tizi Oussem (1850m) - Id Issa Village (1800m) - Tizi Oudid (2000m) - Mattat - Imlil

   After breakfast, enjoy the sun on this colorful valley and its wonderful typical Berber villages, leave Tizi Oussem and continue to Id Issa village, before climbing to the Tizi Oudid pass (2000m), cross the village matat after a wild juniper forest. Lunch under the walnut trees and relax near the river. In the afternoon, short hike in the valley to Imlil.

3. Day 3: Imlil - Dades Valley

   You will be picked up from your accommodation in Imlil at 9:00 am and go on the Atlas Mountains, passing by the beautiful Tizi-n-Tichka pass. You will cross many Berber villages, and once in the desert, you will see oases along the river and barren hillsides dotted with kasbahs (fortified homes that shelter families and their livestock). Along the way, you will have the opportunity to take a break and visit the studios of Ouarzazate or make a stop. Once in the Dades Gorge, you have the opportunity to hike or relax at the hotel.

4. Day 4: Dades Valley - Gorges Du Todra - Merzouga

   Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the Dades Valley to the Todra Gorge - a massive fault dividing the High Atlas Mountains, rising 300 meters into a narrow valley with palm groves and Berber villages. Here you can hike to explore the palm grove, a green oasis full of tall date palms. After lunch, you will head further into the desert towards the city of Merzouga, where you can stock up for your trip in the desert. You will then drive to a kasbah to pick up your camel. At sunset, you will walk for an hour and a half on camel back to a Berber camp where you can enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and sleep under the stars or in tents in a desert camp.

5. Day 5: Merzouga - Marrakech

   Wake up early, just before sunrise, we have a camel ride 1:30 at sunrise to explore the area further and we return to Merzouga on our camels. When we arrive in Merzouga, have breakfast and have the opportunity to take a shower, then we start our journey through the stony desert and over the Atlas Mountains, with lots of stops for photos, exploring and lunch. The usual arrival time in Marrakech is between 17:00 and 18:00.
